Sustainability Workshop for Sri Lanka’s Apparel Industry at Taj Samudra -

On March 11, 2025, a special workshop on sustainability in the apparel industry was held at Taj Samudra, Colombo. Organized with the support of the International Trade Centre (ITC), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and TSCFP, the event aimed to help small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) understand and follow sustainability standards.


Main Topics Covered in the Workshop


The workshop focused on five key areas to help Sri Lanka’s apparel industry grow sustainably:


1. Sustainable and Strong Supply Chains – Encouraging eco-friendly and ethical business practices.

2. Inclusive Trade – Creating more opportunities for women, youth, and vulnerable groups.

3. Green Business Solutions – Using environmentally friendly production methods.

4. Digital Connectivity & E-commerce – Helping businesses expand through technology.

5. Regional Trade Growth – Strengthening Sri Lanka’s connections with other markets.



Introducing the SME Sustainability Toolkit


One of the key highlights was the launch of the SME Sustainability Toolkit, presented by Joseph Wozniak and Grzegorz Tajchman from ITC’s Trade for Sustainable Development (T4SD) program. This toolkit will help businesses:


Understand and follow sustainability rules.

Improve their supply chain transparency.

Reduce environmental impact and improve working conditions.
