We are pleased to share an update on the recent meeting of the Apparel Sector Committee at ministry of Industries.

Meeting Details:

The Apparel Sector Committee meeting took place on October 5, 2023, at the Auditorium of the Ministry of Industries. The meeting aimed to discuss the upcoming project funded by the European Union, which focuses on supporting the implementation of Sri Lanka's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) for the industrial sector.

Key Discussions:

1. Climate Change Mitigation: The meeting highlighted the urgent need for the apparel sector to address climate change and contribute to mitigation efforts. Participants shared insights on reducing carbon emissions, adopting sustainable manufacturing processes, and promoting eco-friendly practices within the sector.

2. Financing Climate Change Mitigation: An assessment of financing options for climate change mitigation actions was a key topic of discussion. The committee explored opportunities to secure funding for sustainable initiatives, such as energy-efficient technologies, renewable energy integration, and waste management systems.

3. Collaboration with Experts: Recognizing the importance of global expertise, the meeting emphasized the collaboration between international experts and local counterparts. This partnership will provide valuable insights and guidance on implementing sustainable practices tailored to the apparel sector's unique challenges and opportunities.
